J.K. Rowling
J.K. Rowling is a British author, philanthropist and campaigner best known for creating the Harry Potter series and the Strike crime novels written under the pseudonym Robert Galbraith.

Harry Potter
J.K. Rowling’s debut, Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone, published in 1997, began a series of seven novels following friends Harry, Ron, and Hermione through Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry. The series has sold over 600 million copies globally, been translated into 85 languages, and is credited for inspiring a new generation of readers. It has produced eight successful film adaptations and a new television series, set for 2026, which will adapt each book into a single season. The magical world she created has also expanded into companion books, the play Harry Potter and the Cursed Child, and the Fantastic Beasts films.
Robert Galbraith
Robert Galbraith is the crime-writing pseudonym of J.K. Rowling and the author name behind the Cormoran Strike series. Beginning with The Cuckoo’s Calling in 2013, the novels follow private detectives Cormoran Strike and Robin Ellacott through complex contemporary crime investigations, conducted from their HQ in London. The series includes eight published books, each adapted for television by the BBC and HBO, with Sleep Tight, Evangeline announced as the ninth Strike novel. Rowling has said there will be ten novels in total, so the series is nearing completion.
Other works
Alongside Harry Potter and the Cormoran Strike novels, J.K. Rowling has written a range of standalone books for adults, young readers and wider audiences. These include The Casual Vacancy, her first novel for adults, Very Good Lives, adapted from her Harvard commencement speech, and the children’s stories The Ickabog and The Christmas Pig.
Charities and campaigning
J.K. Rowling is now well-known as a campaigner for women’s rights as well as a philanthropist. Over the last 25 years, she has actively supported a wide range of humanitarian causes, particularly to do with women and children. Her philanthropy has always been carefully considered; she supports causes and organisations that have personal meaning and resonance and are borne out of her own experience. These include her charitable foundation The Volant Trust, her children’s charity Lumos, the women’s sexual violence support centre Beira’s Place, the Anne Rowling Regenerative Neurology Clinic, and the legal fund for women protecting their sex-based rights, the J.K. Rowling Women’s Fund.
